Evangelical Loonie: If our children can buy pornography on any street corner for five dollars, isn't that too high a price for free speech?
President Martin Sheen: No.
Evangelical Loonie: Really?
President Martin Sheen: On the other hand, I do think that five dollars is too high a price to pay for pornography.
Hahaha. Owned.
Oh yeah, Wall-E is awesome. See it.

Then Ibrahim said: "Order your Community to increase their seedlings of Paradise for its soil is excellent and its land is plentiful." The Prophet said: "What are the seedlings of Paradise?" He replied:
subhan allah: Glory to Allah
wa al-hamdu lillah: and Praise to Allah
wa la ilaha illallah: and there is no god but Allah
wallahu akbar: and Allah is greatest.

Linder Co-op (the clean, quiet, non-hippie co-op) has a female fall-only space open. Room and board usually go for around $470/month. It's at 711 Catherine (at the intersection of Catherine and State).
If you're looking to study abroad in the winter and haven't found yourself a contract yet, maybe look into it. Either stop by and ask for a tour or call the ICC office: (734) 662-4414.

In my SP course today, the shaykh was going over the introduction to the text we're reading, which starts with the Basmallah, then praises Allah subhana wa tala and then praises the Prophet, sallahu alayhi wasalaam. The shaykh went over the reason the author wrote each one. It was the last one that really had an effect on me. Maybe it's because I'm a new Muslim and I haven't heard this explanation before. I've taken courses and read books on the Prophet, sallalahu alayhi wasalaam, but not one of them could explain why exactly we ask Allah to bless him every time we mention him.
That reason is: he is the reason for all our good actions. He suffered, was insulted, cast out, humiliated, stoned. He lost sleep out of worry and he grieved over the injustice born upon him and upon his people. He went through many tests with only goal in mind: that he could pass on the teaching of God to mankind so that we could follow them and be good people. That is why on the Day of Judgement all the good deeds of Muslims will be added to his account. And that is why we, as Muslims, praise him - because he gave us the ability to follow Allah subhana wa tala.
Honestly, no other explanation for why we should love him really made this much sense to me. I must have missed out on the basics.

So I just graduated and was told that my email account would be shut down on June 30...so I set it up to forward to my new Indiana account, yada yada. Well the 30th has come and gone and my email is still working, which is kinda nice except that now my IU inbox will be full of emails I've already read, and since I was stupid enough to use the Gmail interface for that account I can't put anything into folders and sort it away...so yeah, I don't really want to forward mail until I know my account's gone. will I be able to keep my umich email for longer than they said I would (without paying for the monthly service or whatnot)...and will I still be able to log in to computers, the directory or Wolverine Access? A friend of mine graduated in August 07 and had no trouble logging into computers at the Fishbowl when she came to visit this summer. That would be pretty nice considering I'll be in and out of town for most of this summer and I plan on visiting often during grad school!

What japery we have here! And then when I leave here at the end of the summer I think I shall never return.

For those of you who are interested, where do you go to see fireworks around here? I figured there would be something convenient, maybe even within walking distance around campus but I couldn't find anything. Is Ypsi my closest option?
Drew's roller-derby film needs extras
Found this on mlive.com, and had heard from a friend that the movie is filming here. It's called "Whip It!" and is about roller derby ... it's Drew Barrymore's directorial debut and Ellen Page is in it.
[I would definitely go, but unfortunately I have to work. *sigh*]

I've had no time to write anything for the last couple of days. I'll try to post something from Asheville.
Does anybody know where one can go tasting beer? I know A2 has some awesome brewers, but do they have the deal where you can get a flight of beers? (flight= a variety of small cups of beer or wine)

I don't mind working them since I make a decent amount of money to do very little work, but MAN they fuck with your schedule. It's 4:45pm and I'm just eating breakfast and waiting around for my eyes to decide to focus. Oh well.
Oh, so uh, I'm in Powell River. The retail thing didn't work out. Turns out I wasn't quite as officially hired as I thought I was, due to the fact that the manager had hired on three more experienced trainees who were also vying for full time work. Since I'm kind of a lazy motherfucker I decided to ditch for home and make 17 bucks an hour for a couple months so that maybe I could save a tiny bit for next year rather than scrambling to make rent and feed myself.
Lastly, I had a dream that I met Rene Engstrom, except that she was a dude, and she kinda looked like Kean Soo except she was covered in green and blue tattoos (like, on her face and bald head) and facial piercings. I said hello and was really nervous in the dream? I dunno. Sorry, Rene.

It isn't politicians, but there is still squabbling. It is the backbone of our country! Happy Canada Day!

On behalf of the Board and editors of The Heroic Age, I would like
to announce the publication of Issue 11. My special thanks go out
to Linda Malcor, Deanna Forsman, and Bill Schipper and all of our
readers who went beyond the call of duty to finally bring it
together and released to the world. http://www.heroicage.org
There are many things to enjoy in this issue. Board member Linda
Malcor and colleagues have put together an interesting collection
of papers exploring various aspects of Arthur and folklore. In
addition to those four articles, there is a short article on a new
textual find.
Turning to our regular features, we have the usual suspects. Michel
Aaij continues to inform us about medieval studies in Europe in
Continental Business and Dan O'Donnell continues his series of
reflections in Electronic Medievalia. In the Forum, we have several
pieces addressing the State of the Field in Anglo-Saxon Studies.
And we have a new column beginning in this issue. The Babel group
has joined forces with us at The Heroic Age and will be publishing
a column in every issue generally addressing the application of
theoretical approaches to early medieval studies. In this inaugural
column, Daniel Murtaugh weighs in with an article focused on
Beowulf. Further, Aaron Kleist introduces us to the Electronic
Aelfric project. I almost neglected to mention an excerpt from
Martin Foys' recent book, Virtually Anglo-Saxon.
Please take a look at our upcoming Calls for Papers. In addition
to specific, themed sections, The Heroic Age accepts papers on any
aspect of the early Medieval period (300-1100) dealing or touching
on NW Europe (loosely defined) at any time.

Hey Everyone,
I'm pretty sure that one of my housemates has decided to stop paying rent for the remainder of the lease. I'm in charge of sending in the rent for the whole house, and while I know today is only the first, she stopped paying utilities already and won't return phone calls or emails.
So... what are my options? I have no idea what to do. I don't have enough money to cover her rent until this is figured out. Rent is going to be a few days late anyway. '
Thanks! (btw I did not see this in the memories, but I feel like it's been asked before. feel free to direct me to relevant posts.)
